Being at Maeve and Phil's wedding felt a little bit like what I imagined being at an Elvish wedding would be like. It was pretty magical. Maeve and Phil, along with their friends and families worked so hard to host such an amazing wedding at such an amazing place. Phil's family had close connections to Camp Carefree (and if you don't know what Camp Campfree is we'd love to invite you to read all about it by clicking the link here). The Sugg family has devoted a lot of their time to making the camp the truly special place that it is, a camp for children who suffer from chronic illnesses. It really ended up as such a beautiful and fun place for Maeve and Phil and their people to relax and just be for the week of their wedding.
They incorporated so many special elements into their day, from the beautiful artwork on the menus and programs (thanks to Maeve's sister-in-law), being married by Maeve's Uncle, filling the air with the sounds of Maeve's mother's home country of Ireland with a real Irish band, pulling in bits of German readings, since Maeve and Phil are both German scholars. Maeve's older brother is actually a well known recording artist in Germany so he and his wife both gave beautiful German readings during the ceremony. At one point during the ceremony the couple requested everyone to stop, stand up and greet and get to know each other for a few minutes. Those few minutes turned into about ten, but it was lovely and so comfortable.
I could go on and on. There were so many moments that I wanted to share with you, the viewer of this blog, so you could understand how special some of these moments we captured were. Just that walk down the lane she had with her father to get to her new husband, wow...that was truly something out of a movie. There were so many moments that left so many of us speechless. When Maeve stood in the middle of her Irish Aunts, we all cried for the one that was missing, was her mother, but Maeve and I both noticed the huge blue butterfly that fluttered all the way down the aisle during the ceremony, floated and glided around both the bride and groom's heads and then gently landed on Phil's left shoe before flying away over the lake. It all happened very quickly but Maeve and I both spoke of the little messenger afterwards and we knew it was a good sign!
The reception was filled with happy tears and lots of laughter. Phil danced with mom, Maeve danced with Dad and then she surprised her older rock star brother when she had The Emerald Empire Band learn one of his band's songs "Brother" and asked for him to dance with her. That truly didn't leave many with a dry eye but we were all singing along that's for sure! So many special memories, so many beautiful moments. This one filled our hearts to the brim! Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Sugg! It was a true honor.
