Ali & Craig, Private Residence - Kill Devil Hills, NC

Apparently when Ali saw Craig for the first time she knew he had great veins.  Nurses are weird!  I can say that because I know...when Bill met me that was one of the first things he said about me (he was a paramedic).  I guess that's a pick up line in "medical world".  "Hey baby you've got good veins."  Um...okay you're all freaky!  Anyways...you'll see from these photos Ali and Craig have good everything!  Skin, eyes, bone structure...they give Brad and Angelina a run for their money, seriously!  I actually shot this wedding all by my lonesome (Rachel, me - I'm lonesome in this scenario).  Ali and Craig had planned for a small destination wedding on the Outer Banks of NC for their wedding.  They traveled from Ohio (my home state) so I already had a deep love for them.  When we spoke on the phone and they told me they only planned to have about 25-30 guests in attendance I felt like I could handle shooting the whole wedding.  When we were in Florida we use to shoot beach elopements once a week (at least).  Though, we don't often get on the beach anymore I was super excited for this one.  And then Tropical Storm Hermine formed.  Though Ali and Craig's wedding was set for the Thursday before Labor Day I was more worried about our weekend weddings than I was Ali and Craig's wedding.  Then Hurricane Hermine formed and my phone went off early Thursday morning.  Ali asked if I could get to them an hour earlier as the Hurricane's track had changed, strengthened, sped up and it looked the Outer Banks were going to be effected sooner than we all expected.

I couldn't believe it!  I made it and with time to spare but when I got there I was expecting a small and fairly simple beach elopement.  I was shocked and pretty in love with how elegant this "little beach wedding" was.  GORGEOUS flowers, beautiful Chiavari chairs, a ceremony set up that I could photograph a dozen different ways and a reception that January (my photography clone) would want at least 20 minutes for to photograph all the details.  I took a deep breath and tried to figure out a way to split myself down the middle and become two photographers.  I think I did it.  I'm not sure how...but I pulled it off.  I was in two places at once as I wanted to make sure to photograph all the pretty!!  AND THERE WAS SO MUCH PRETTY!  If we had started the ceremony 10 minutes later we would not have made the ceremony and the 8 or so minutes I had of posed photos before the hardest and somewhat painful rain band made landfall.

I was grateful for Ali and Craig and Ali's grandpa who eventually smiled for me (even though he didn't want to).  I was blessed to make it home safe in some of the most wicked weather I've ever driven through.  But I'm most blessed to have witnessed another beautiful couple become husband and wife.  Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Acker -- cheers to good veins!!!
