On Mia and Alec's wedding day we laughed... a lot; I cried... a few times and people (including me) sang the song, "Bless Us All" from a Muppet Christmas Carol.  So hold up, wait; before you start trying to read that again, it's true.  Many people that know Bill and I know that the Muppets are super special to us, for many reasons I will not go into now (maybe a future blog post) but apparently watching a Muppets' Christmas Carol is VERY special to both the bride, groom and their families!  It is one of those special little "things" that a lot of couples have.  We didn't ask and (as I said) we sang with them.  It's really a beautiful song, the first verse goes:

"Life is full of sweet surprises, everyday's a gift
The sun comes up and I can feel it lift my sprit
It fills me up with laughter, it fills me up with song
I look into the eyes of love and know that I belong
Bless us all, who gather here."

Mia and Alec's wedding day truly could not have been better.  The weather for a spring wedding in the mountains, was PERFECT.  Mia is truly a wind spirit and she and I instantly bonded over our mutual love of nature and all things dealing with the moon.  The wedding day even fell on a particular full moon called, "The Pink Moon".  The air was in constant motion, sometimes strong and sometimes just cool enough to make you close your eyes and say a tiny prayer of gratitude.  Okay, I'm not trying to sound all "new age", but Mia with her delicately pink gown and layers that went on for miles made photos so much fun.  It's almost hard to describe all of the special elements to the day.  The bride included several memorable pieces, but my personal favorite was her handkerchief embroidered with one of her favorite quotes from Jane Eyre.  Mia donned a pair of vintage gloves that her mother and grandmother wore on their wedding days; Alec's father gave a beautiful sermon and of course - since Mia and Alec are both of Scottish decent, this truly was a "Highland wedding".  The reception music was provided by an awesome Celtic band called the Carolina Ceili, dinner was made by executive chef Mike Ferrari and his talented team.  The Farm, A Gathering Place is truly an all inclusive wedding venue; not only can one or more cabins be rented right on the property but couples can have a custom menu created by a true and really great chef.  At the Farm, couples also receive coordination and the planners at The Farm are some of the best (special thanks to Erica for being incredible to work with). Mia and Alec really followed their hearts for their wedding day and did what they wanted; they enjoyed everyone that was present and celebrated.  Alec's honorary groomsmen walked with him down the aisle and then sat at the end of each row.  Mia's bridesmaids were selected to represent her past, present and future and the ladies split and stood on both sides for the ceremony.

Once Carolina Ceili wrapped up their part of the reception some good old fashioned dance music was played and kept everyone going until the very end!  Once the music was over and the last drinks (at the bar) were poured; Mia and Alec disappeared into the night, after a short wagon ride. I feel like Alec and Mia's wedding day is one that I don't have to describe too desperately to make you understand how it all went down; isn't that what photos are for?  So at last, please enjoy these images as they were taken with so much love because that is what the couple gave to us and all of their friends and family that attended. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Macaulay,

May the gracious God hold you both
in the palm of His hands.
And, today, may the Spirit of Love
find a dwelling place in your hearts.

Alicia & Jay - The Farm, A Gathering Place - Candler, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2018/4/alicia-jay---the-farm-a-gathering-place---candler-nc Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Alicia and Jay stole our hearts from the moment we spoke on the phone for the first time.  I always tell my clients that if you need ANYTHING do not hesitate to email, call or text me.  I hope that I can take some of the pressure off of them by having years of resources available to them, that they probably don't.  Alicia really took everything I said to heart and let me "love" her on her wedding day.  What I mean by that is she let me be a calming force, someone she could let it all out with.  If you're my bride and need to curse and yell every single dirty word you can think of, I'll listen.  If you need to talk about how stressed you are or just about how you're done with worrying and don't give a damn, I'll be right there to lift you up.

Alicia and Jay wanted a destination mountain wedding, which can be a huge undertaking.  Destination weddings are tough enough, but in the mountains you have to worry about transportation for your guests to and from the venue and some mountain wedding locations can barely fit a Ford Focus through the winding roads, much less a stretch limo or charter bus.  So from start to finish, without the help of a great coordinator and vendors who are well use to the area, your wedding day can turn into a logistical panic attack.

Thankfully Alicia and Jay picked one of the best venues in all of Western North Carolina, The Farm - A Gathering Place. The Farm's accomplished head Chef designs a custom menu for each and every couple and the staff execute everything from casual to elegant perfectly.  Alicia and Jay had a great mix of chic, vintage elegance. They hoped for a beautiful and traditional ceremony and a reception that would go down in history and that is exactly what happened.  So much love, so much alcohol, (haha) dancing and laughter!  The day was a complete success and we are thrilled to have been with them on their wedding day.  Alicia and Jay are the type of people to change the world and make it a better place.  So bookmark this blog post and come back one day when you see all the great things they've done!

**Starting out the day, Alicia wanted her girls to enjoy the Farm and lots of yummy food!  We made sure to get photos of the spread because this was something that was done from the bride's heart**

Jordan wanted to make sure we were there to capture Alicia's reaction to his "wedding day" gift.  It was truly one of the best and most thought out gifts we've ever seen a bride receive.  For their love of travel and adventure together, they now had a "map" to track everything from the smallest day to one of their best.

Sarah & Colin, Burnshirt Vineyards and The Century Room at Pack's Tavern - Asheville, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2018/2/sarah-colin-burnshirt-vineyards-and-the-century-room-at-packs-tavern---asheville-nc

Sarah and Colin are both officers in the United States Military; they met at West Point and they currently live somewhere in the North Pole, well - close to, upstate New York!  Sarah is from North Carolina and has close ties to Asheville and it seemed natural to host a fun and relaxed wedding in one of the best cities ever. Helping them plan the wedding was fun too.  I remember when they booked us Sarah had the date booked at Pack's Tavern and said for the ceremony "we'll get it figured out" and they did!  The ladies "getting ready" location was at the Hotel Indigo and the bride and groom opted for a first look before heading out on a trolley ride with the wedding party to the ceremony site in Hendersonville.  Once we arrived at Burntshirt Vineyards we were able to complete all of the wedding party photos and most of the bride and groom creative photos because Sarah and Colin wanted to waste no time getting to Pack's Tavern and getting the reception started.  It was a blessing that we planned the day the way we did because we JUST avoided heavy thunderstorms.  Sarah and Colin and their family appreciated our super speed "formals" in order to get everyone back on the trolley to stay dry but we got back to downtown Asheville and got the party started sooner rather than later.  One of the most fun and absolutely crazy aspects of the day was Sarah and Colin's duel bouquet/garter toss! Yep, we're not sure if we'd recommend that depending on the crowd because there could be some serious injuries if you have an energetic crowd; but it did make for some really good belly laughs and I'm sure, great memories!  The whole day worked out just as it needed to.  Thankfully a bride and groom who just let things flow and didn't stress too much about the weather and were just happy to getting married!  We love our couples who keep their eye on the prize...each other!

Allison & Anderson, Separk Mansion - Gastonia, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/12/allison-anderson-separk-mansion---gastonia-nc Allison and Anderson truly wanted a traditional southern ceremony.  They packed their friends and family into the gorgeous Separk Mansion in Gastonia North Carolina.  Allison had her bridal portraits shot months earlier at Separk (which we've included a few in the blog post) and truly blew everyone away with her beauty.  She and Anderson were so happy to host so many that they loved in such a beautiful southern mansion and we're so happy to share the highlights of their wedding day!  They kept things traditional with no first look and traditional events at the reception, capping it all off with a sparkler exit.  We wish Mr. and Mrs. Sherrill a lifetime of being surrounded by love and support!

Megan & Conner, The Laboratory Mill - Lincolnton, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/12/megan-conner-the-laboratory-mill---lincolnton-nc When I write our blog posts, it's so important that I'm able to express so much about our couples but also try to keep it fairly short - because, let's face it...when I get attached (Bill too) we get attached.  Megan and Conner wrapped themselves around our hearts and we don't want to let them go.  They have an inspiring love for God and their goodness just GLOWS and truly makes you just want to be a better person.  The historic venue was the perfect setting for Megan and Conner and though we weren't able to do many outdoor photos due to a massive thunderstorm that lasted most of our time there, it was still such a beautiful day.  Megan and Conner were married at The Laboratory Mill in Lincolnton and wanted to incorporate a foot washing ceremony into their big day.  The foot washing ceremony is meant to be a depiction of the love and honor Christ showed for his disciples when he washed their feet. One of my favorite details included Megan's bouquet which she incorporated her mother's wedding headpiece.  Also, as another avid Disney lover, she had some sweet Disney undertones and I felt like I was photographing Belle!  We're so happy that the world has Mr. and Mrs. Gregg - it's a better place with these two as a team!

Ashleigh & Adam, The Bear River Lodge - Whitsett, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/7/ashleigh-adam-the-bear-river-lodge---whitsett-nc My sweet Ashleigh and her husband Adam.  Our special connection came through Ashleigh's matron of honor Mindy, who was our bride last year.  Ashleigh was Mindy's maid of honor and we got to know each other well and I became well aware of Ashleigh's type A personality.  I know that type well, because I am that type.  I get along well with those brides.  In my personal life, I tend to be that way so when it comes to having clients that are a little OCD I know exactly how to calm and ease that nervous tension.  Ashleigh really is just a gal after my own heart.  I knew what she was going to be stressing over before she was stressing over it...because it was things I would stress over, but the great thing is since Bill and I do this so much, we know how to handle it before it can become an issue or all you need is a hug!  Mindy, thankfully being her MOH is the exact opposite, she is as calm and flowing as the river that ran next Ashleigh and Adam's gorgeous venue.  If you're looking for a sweet mountain venue, check this place out.  It's tucked away, just a few miles from Hot Springs and so perfect for that dreamy mountain setting.

Ashleigh and her family got ready in Hot Springs at the Red Bridge Lodge and we were able to complete all of her families side of the photos as well as Adam's prior to the ceremony.  That's always a nice thing to accomplish if the couple doesn't want to do a first look, just to keep things easy and cut down on photo time after the ceremony.  The sweetest aspect of the day was that Ashleigh and Adam incorporated a wine ceremony into their nuptials but the wine was made from Ashleigh's grandmother and grandfather's vines.  A longstanding winery that their family had enjoyed for years and that was also the wine that everyone enjoyed at the reception and though we don't drink the blackberry wine SMELLED SO GOOD!!!!  Bill and I enjoyed roaming the reception taking so many fun family photos and listening to story after story from each side of the family.  It always makes us feel so great when we're so included and not just treated like hired vendors.  Everyone enjoyed delicious food from The Farm to Fender food truck and the whole evening was so focused on fun and family, I really think it turned out so beautifully.  Ashleigh and Adam - we love you...Ashleigh, we hope you can just kick back now and enjoy the honeymoon and Adam, please don't look at your watch while you're there!

Kelsey & David, The Mint Museum - Charlotte, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/7/kelsey-david-the-mint-museum---charlotte-nc We LOVE Kelsey and Dave and OH MY, we love The Mint!  Wow, we're so in love with the light and the view.  The facilities are a dream for a wedding.  The flow and space and Kelsey and David had a vision and with the help of Jess from the Mint and all of the other fantastic vendors we just had a breathtaking and beautiful day for our bride and groom.  Each wedding day encounters one hurdle, one hiccup and Kelsey and David's was the Taste of Charlotte festival that shut the several streets down in Uptown, including the one in front of their venue.  Kelsey was worried that it might cause problems for the photos we planned on the street level and I told her if we could photograph a wedding during the riots that happened last year, we could handle a street festival.  Thankfully, most of the people stayed on the street for the food and fun and we were still able to take beautiful photos across the street without too many interruptions.  The nice thing about hiccups on weddings days is that it always takes Bill and I out of our comfort zone and in Kelsey and David's case I think we ended up with even more beautiful photos.  We were forced to look in other directions for photos and we found new places to shoot that we don't normally use when we're in that spot in Uptown Charlotte and I can honestly say, they are new favorite spots.

The reception was fantastic, more like a dance club than just a wedding reception.  Kelsey's dance with her dad turned into one of the highlights of the day but I'll always remember her father's speech.  He spoke of his love for his daughter and how special she was to him and how it all started with him asking Kelsey's mom for her phone number.  Then, he pulled out the very tiny piece of paper that Kelsey's mom wrote her number down on.  Her father keeps it in his wallet every day...it's a little worn, but I'm not sure there was (a woman's) dry eye in the building.  Coming from a home and relationship like that, it's easy to see why Kelsey is such an amazing woman and why she found such an incredible man like David.  Thank you, again for letting us be there with you Kelsey and David.  It was our honor and every time we clicked our shutter button we smiled.  We love you two!  Congratulations on forever together!

Jessica & Rick, The Rickhouse - Durham, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/7/jessica-rick-the-rickhouse---durham-nc One of my funniest, silliest brides to date is Jessica Scott.  She is GORGEOUS and she swings from trees, does the robot dance (for no reason), makes the most outrageous jokes and can make ME laugh uncontrollably.  This chick is the real deal!  She's seriously got it all!  So does her fancy lawyer (now) husband Mr. Rick Scott - not the governor of Florida, which I will make no political statements about on this blog.  Rick and Jessica are together like one of the best comedy shows you could hope for.  I won't lie when I first met them, in person, walking up for their engagement session I was totally intimidated.  They are gorgeous and they look like they have it all together but they are more down to earth and silly than most.  Their wedding day was a reflection of them.  A wedding cake for cutting because they don't really like cake so there was a massive ice cream sundae bar with all the toppings, dancing and the cutest first dance that was so Jessica and Rick.  Literally, by the time we left my cheeks hurt from smiling all day.  We're so happy to have been Mr. and Mrs. Scott's wedding photographers.  We can't wait to see what the future has in store...and Jessica promised we get to take their maternity and baby pictures and we know those are going to be ADORABLE photos!!!!

Lauren & Mondrian, Leatherwood Mountains Resort - Ferguson, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/7/lauren-mondrian-leatherwood-mountains-resort---ferguson-nc Lauren and Mondrian are an adventurous pair and have a way of keeping their wedding photographers (us) on our toes.  Let's just say, they keep things super interesting and super fun!  For instance we were scaling cliffs for their engagement session and Mondrian and I were telling Lauren "that's enough, let's not go any further" to Lauren.  The wedding day (in a way) was the same way.  Their first look was, pretty much, on the edge of a mountain - with little to no wiggle room, but we made it work!  Sweet Lauren worried about rain for months because she had such a beautiful plan for their mountain wedding and wanted everyone to enjoy the beautiful outdoors and not be stuck underneath a tent.  Thankfully, never a rain drop fell from the sky and the day was magic!  The couple choose not to name a wedding party or have anyone stand with them instead just their closest friends at their sides as they got ready.  The guys, of course, enjoyed some antics and fun for photos before the ceremony.  Afterwards everyone ate, danced, laughed and enjoyed their time from the cabins high in the mountains where the bride and groom each got married to the valley below where the ceremony and reception were held.  I think the party last long after Bill and I left as everyone was so in love and celebrating this wonderful couple!  Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Bogert...we love you!!

Kate & Chris, Huntersville ARP Church and The Peninsula Club - Cornelius, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/7/kate-chris-huntersville-arp-church-and-the-peninsula-club---cornelius-nc Kate and Chris, such a dynamic duo.  Chris got his dream job as a photographer with ESPN and had to move to Connecticut months before the wedding and Kate stayed behind in her beloved Charlotte, all the while knowing she'd be joining her sweet husband after the wedding.  He bought new glasses while he was away and apparently Kate wasn't too keen on the new style.  For a couple who had done everything together, I think it was so hard for them to do much apart (much like it would be for Bill and I).  Chris is the type of guy that instead of wearing those glasses that Kate didn't like, he made sure he wore the glasses she knew and loved on their wedding day.  So not only when those church doors opened was Chris blown away, but Kate had a sweet surprise too and a reminder of the "old ways".  It's simple and little things like that, that I love that we know about our clients.  The stories that they share with us and how much they let us into their lives.  Our lives are better for it and it just let's us be completely wrapped up in their wedding days, every touch, every kiss we capture, they aren't just pictures, we're living your love story and it's such an honor.

Kate and Chris went on to have the most beautiful wedding and super fun reception.  Sure everything wasn't perfect...we had to improvise her bustle (happens at almost every wedding) and not everything ran on time, there was rain (so what, it happens), we even got caught in it (me, Bill, Chris and Kate for photos and we even got locked out of the building - but we all laughed about it afterwards.  They were so wrapped up in the big things that although they wanted a sparkler exit they forgot to buy the sparklers, but their awesome coordinator at the Peninsula Club had so many left over from other events they were still able to have literally everything Kate wanted (and I think a little more).  Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Duzan!  Let the adventure begin!

Brooke & Jacob, Merry Hill Farm - Mebane, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/7/brooke-jacob-merry-hill-farm---mebane-nc Best.Day.Ever!  They met on MySpace, y'all!  You think it was time for them to get hitched?  Um, yea!  Brooke is full of life and character, spunk and spark and Jacob is a true southern gentleman.  The go together like peanut butter and jelly.  They had a true and adorable (do I say adorable too much) southern wedding.  Brooke said she wanted people to just enjoy themselves.  Bill described it as a formal wedding with a very informal and fun reception. Everyone (including us - THANK YOU BROOKE AND JACOB) ate the best and yummiest grilled hamburgers, bbq, banana pudding and mac n cheese.  I think there were a few other things but I was so ecstatic to be at a wedding with a cheeseburger I couldn't stop smiling.  For a pair that eats wedding food EVERY weekend sometimes 3 times a weekend a delicious cheeseburger was AWESOME!!

We had so much fun with Brooke and her girls, Bill laughed and joked with the guys.  Though we didn't get our photographs with the farms famous peacocks and donkeys, we heard them all through the night.  There was dancing, OH SO MUCH DANCING and love and laughter, just as a wedding should be.  Sometimes, at weddings like this, you just have to stand back and smile and thank God for everything going so well. We see the smiles on our clients faces, their families and friends and know that it was all so happy for them.  Brooke, Jacob you're blessed to have each other - never forget that!  We love you and we'll see you again!

Emily & Alan, Country Club of the Crystal Coast - Pine Knoll Shores, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/7/emily-alan-country-club-of-the-crystal-coast---pine-knoll-shores-nc Emily and Alan are about as sweet as cotton candy, rolled up in rays of sunshine sprinkled with butterflies.  I really don't know how else to describe them; and their families are that wonderful too.  God truly blesses us with the best people!  We first met Emily and Alan before they became official residents in Charlotte and they were so excited to be moving here from West Virginia.  Emily is an RN and Alan works in finance and they were ready to make that jump to Charlotte.  Emily grew up spending all of her free time and summers in Emerald Isle and the coast of North Carolina with her family and it was always her dream to get married there.  Alan, loving Emily so was happy to oblige and so was his wonderful family.  Everyone, including Bill and I made a little vacation out of their wedding.  As you'll see from the images, I truly don't think the day could have been better.  You'll see dark clouds loomed off the water (but for us it just made the images so unique) and left us with a beautiful salty breeze.  Emily was sensational and gorgeous and Alan was the sweetest and most handsome groom.  I kept telling both of their mothers how he reminded me of what my own son might look like grown and therefore I was pretty smitten with this adorable couple.  They loved us as much as we loved them and I can't imagine missing their wedding day.  We were so honored to have been there.  Emily's parent's even sent Bill and I a beautiful present from West Virginia just a few weeks after the wedding, a hand blown glass Christmas ornament (you can never go wrong with getting the Bolens anything Christmas).  Bill's father is from West Virginia and Bill has a very special connection to the area and me, well I love anything handmade!  Another one of those family's that Bill and I will hold so close to our hearts and hopefully stay in touch with for years and years to come!  Emily and Alan, we love you!  May God continue to bless you with a light that shines so bright that you lead others onto a path of love and grace!

Lindsay & Ian, Proximity Hotel - Greensboro, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/7/lindsay-ian-proximity-hotel---greensboro-nc A lot of emails come through our inbox now and many ask us about travel.  It's not that we're not interested.  We'll do it if the opportunity strikes us.  Before our days as parents we LOVED it.  We'd be in Ohio for a wedding, catch a flight to Chicago for another (the next day) and then Tybee Island Georgia for an engagement session to top our weekend off.  It was so much fun but now that we've shot so much and experienced that life...Bill and I are so content to plant Gold child Ivy under our maple tree in our front yard and watch our neighbors horses gallop through the back pasture and sit outside until the deer come and graze by our pond at night.  We love North Carolina and, though we travel from the Outer Banks to the tallest peaks in our great state we're pretty happy staying within the boundaries of our home state now.  We're pretty much reserving our time outside of NC for family vacations (that doesn't mean, don't ask us for a wedding outside the state) it's just we really like to be close to home now.  Anyways, back to this blog post.  We LOVED the Proximity Hotel in Greensboro SO MUCH!  With us living out in the country nothing feels close but Greensboro is by far, the closest "city" for us.  About 45 minutes (at most) and that made us love this venue even, not to mention our incredibly lovely and oh-so-chill bride and groom.  Ian is a orthopedic surgeon and Lindsay is a dietian but I think she threw the health food out the window with their SEVEN cheesecake factory cheesecakes!  WOW, did the entire room smell like a sugar delight!

Lindsay and Ian just wanted a beautiful, unique day to celebrate their wedding.  Nothing too "over the top".  Ian told me the bar was their wedding cake and we made sure to honor that wholeheartedly.  We had so much fun with them (and hopefully they did with us).  We loved the ceremony set up at the Proximity and the staff!  Wow, the staff was so amazing!  Kind, hardworking and didn't let anything past them.  We hope to be back their soon and we can't wait to see more of Lindsay and Ian...if anything just to laugh so more.  Congratulations and many blessings many more years to love and laughter!

Chemaria & Damien, Founders Hall (Uptown Charlotte) - Charlotte, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/7/chemaria-damien-founders-hall-uptown-charlotte---charlotte-nc I truly don't know even where to begin when I write about Chemaria and Damien.  I'm not sure where they stole our hearts but they did.  I photographed their engagement session at UNC Chapel Hill.  The place where their met and "kind of" fell in love.  It's a long story but to make it short and not even as sweet as they are.  Damien knew right away that Chemaria was the one, but she played it tough.  She said "NO FOOTBALL PLAYERS".  They met in gospel choir.  I mean, come on y'all!  GOSPEL CHOIR?!  He worked and tried and she kept that front up.  Eventually she let it down, then put it back up, until she just knew she couldn't live without him.  So, back to where they stole OUR hearts?  I think it was when we had our SECOND session with them (when I went back to Kenan Memorial Stadium) to photograph Damien's graduation photos. I brought Bill and our sweet baby boy Walt along.  Coming from a football family, I wanted Walt to experience the greatness of the stadium but after all it was the greatness of Chemaria and Damien that Walt fell for.  When I saw how Chemaria and Damien both were so distracted by our son I just couldn't get over it.  They are the type of couple that aren't about their beauty or how awesome they are, but they both were more into showing a small 2 year old around a big football stadium.  Walt took to Chemaria and held her hand and I knew we didn't just have clients but precious friends for life.  From then on, we were not just photographers with clients but we were so invested in their lives (and they in our lives as well) that it wasn't just about taking pictures for their wedding.

We're like that with many of our couples.  There is typically something, whether tiny or great that bonds us and for Mr. and Mrs. Washington it will always be those moments and them hugging and holding our son, sharing their dreams for their future together as husband and wife with us, praying for and with us - that will bond us. We even ran into them while we were photographing other engagement sessions in Durham.  Chemaria and Damien always hugged us like it was the last time they'd ever hug us.  Seeing them was always one of the happiest times.  They have become so special to our family.  So I knew their wedding day would be so emotional for me, especially and it was.  Watching them say their vows, seeing Chemaria giggle and Damien play it cool, their first dance, Chemaria pull her mother in tight for their dance together and speak of her sweet father in heaven was an honor.  Being able to hug Damien's mother and thank her for raising such a wonderful man and see that reflection in his younger siblings throughout the evening...everything was just a blessing.  Their wedding was a beautiful day but it was nothing compared for what I expect their marriage to be.  We love you Mr. and Mrs. Washington -- TO THE MOON and BACK!

Rachel & Eric, The Holiday Inn Center City - Charlotte, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/6/rachel-and-eric-the-holiday-inn-center-city---charlotte-nc Rachel and Eric - where do I even begin!  They booked on the phone and then I got the opportunity to meet them at the Smelly Cat Coffeehouse in Charlotte.  I mean, I know MY name is Rachel but being an avid Friends (tv show) junkie since I was 17 (I'm 36 years old now), just saying "I was going to meet Rachel at Smelly Cat Coffeehouse made me giddy.  I know it was the Central Perk (if you're not a watcher of Friends, you have NO IDEA WHAT I'M talking about right now so just skip to the next paragraph) but it was all so much fun with these two from the start.

We photographed their session at the Biltmore and they were just so laid back, cool and fun.  I adored Eric's hair (do I sound even more weird) and I let him know how much I loved his hair.  He cut it shorter for the wedding (I was a little bummed) but I'm not his wife, just a fan.  Honestly, by the time our client's wedding days roll around I've pictured it and I'm probably ALMOST just as excited about it as they are.  We ran into a few bumps (like most weddings) and Bill and I were there to bounce ideas off of and ultimately I was Rachel's shoulder and her mom's best friend (sometimes I have to play referee between moms and daughters).  I get the mother/daughter dynamic...we love each other but we also want to strangle each other and most of the time it's because we're just too much alike (am I right)?  Bride's want their moms there with them, yet you need them to give you space. Mom's love their daughter's but they want to strangle you too...it's a beautiful dance! Rachel and Eric had a beautiful Jewish ceremony on the rooftop of the hotel on a GORGEOUS breezy day in Uptown Charlotte.  With impending rain in the forecast for the evening, though they had really hoped for their reception to continue on the rooftop the party was moved inside into a ballroom but it didn't stop the celebration.

The bubble exit got a little switched up at the end and Bill suggested lining everyone up and having Rachel and Eric walk through the bubbles and into the elevators, which also turned into a very adorable impromptu photo opportunity!  When you're staying at the venue and it's raining outside...we're limited but it all happened and it was PERFECT!  We love you Mr. and Mrs. King!!!

Crystal Marie & Eskias, NOAH'S Event Venue - Charlotte, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/6/crystal-marie-eskias-noahs-event-venue---charlotte-nc You might notice on our blog that during the month of April we were at the NOAH's Event Venue a lot! 3 times actually, and April was the first month the venue was open so, WOW we quickly began to feel at home there (and has an incredible staff to run it all).  It was great, because the venue is set up to handle so many different types of events and create so many different looks.  Quite honestly, you'd never know it when you first walk into it but what we saw from each of the 3 weddings we photographed there in April was just awesome and beautiful.  Crystal Marie and Eskias came all the way from LA (yes Cali) to marry in Charlotte.  Crystal Marie is from NC and Eskias really wanted to give his beautiful (now) wife what she wanted.  Eskias Ethiopian background was honored throughout the day and you'll see that throughout the pictures.  The couple's beautiful hearts and how they truly want to incorporate everyone they love was radiated during the ceremony and reception.  Before dancing began the couple honored their elders with a traditional Ethiopian "knee kissing ceremony" and then the party began!  We had so much fun capturing and being a part of such a grand love story.  We see big things from this dynamic couple...you wait and see!!  You've probably already seen them all over Instagram and other social media sites when Crystal Marie posted the recreation shot we did of the wedding image of the Obama's wedding photo.  It went viral and had so many views and hits we've been contacted by multiple blogs and news outlets.  We really can't take credit for something Crystal Marie asked for, we just pulled it off!!  We love and wish Crystal Marie and Eskias nothing but blessings and light for their future together!!

Kristyn & Shane, Lowe's Grove Baptist Church & Doubletree Hotel - Durham, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/6/kristyn-shane-lowes-grove-baptist-church-doubletree-hotel---durham-nc Kristyn and Shane's weddings was filled with sentiment.  Not so much in decoration and trinkets but in family and their surroundings.  They were married in the church that Kristyn's mother and father said "I do" some 30 years ago and prior to that, Kristyn's own grandparents were MEANT to say their vows in the very same church had it not been for a terrible snow storm.  They were still married but were unable to make it to their beloved church and still carried on with their vows at the bride's home.  What is meant to be surely will be.  As Kristyn's mother stood placing her veil on her sweet daughter's head I found I was the one filled with emotion.  They were steadfast yet laughing at me who was emotional.  Of course, I do this EVERY weekend but I was so caught in such an honored space watching such a beautiful moment take place.  It was a bit of history unfolding so beautifully.

The couple chose not to do a first look, but a first touch, at the front doors of the church.  Bill was with Shane and Bill said that when he told Shane it was "time to go" (just talk to Kristyn) Shane became quite emotional.  Bill described the moment as so sweet and overwhelming and he kept Shane breathing.  Shane was so excited to talk to her and the emotions just took over.  We love how our couples ebb and flow on their wedding day, often trading places with each other.  Bill and I are always sure to keep Kleenex close by (for me too).  Please enjoy their love story through our images.  This is just a very, very small snippet of their day and the beginning of so much for such a wonderful couple!

Sydne & Ryan, NOAH'S of Charlotte - Charlotte, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/6/sydne-ryan-noahs-of-charlotte---charlotte-nc Sydne and Ryan are so much fun.  Sydne is a planner, she's the type of bride who had everything planned out before the wedding day.  Thankfully, she relinquished that control on the day of the wedding and left everything in the hands of her wedding pros.  Their wedding day was beautiful!  We had so much fun with this crew and enjoyed every second of it all!  From beginning to end everything was an honor to be a part of.  We can't wish Sydne and Ryan more happiness than they already have...the love and silliness they are surrounded by is something that everyone deserves!  Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Stone!

Laura & Brian, 21c Museum Hotel and The Rickhouse - Durham, NC http://www.thirteenthmoonphotography.com/blog/2017/5/laura-brian-21c-museum-hotel-and-the-rickhouse---durham-nc Brian is a blessed man.  He's got a creative woman by his side.  She's beautiful, silly and loves food.  Laura is a blessed woman.  She's got an intelligent man by her side.  He loves her with a fire and truly just lets her do what she needs to do in her pursuit to be creative and she truly wanted their wedding to reflect her creative side.  We started out in the bridal suite which was the penthouse of 21c Museum Hotel and had the bride and groom's first look in the infamous vault!  We did as many of the wedding party photos beforehand as possible and then made our way over to the Rickhouse for the wedding ceremony.  The couple enjoyed part of their cocktail hour overlooking the Durham Athletic Park before dancing and enjoying the evening with their closest friends and family.

P.S. - You're going to fall in love with Laura's sweet baby boy and ring bearer..just wait until you see him, he hardly ever left her side.
